London Calling: Royal Surprises, Peppa Pig Tea, and British Eats

London Calling: Royal Surprises, Peppa Pig Tea, and British Eats

London, England

Back in the summer of 2023, we landed in London for the first stop of our European adventure—and wow, what a way to kick things off! From British pub food to royal parades, a Peppa Pig tea party, and the legendary Harrods, our time in London was packed with fun, surprises, and sensory experiences.

Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash – The Ultimate British Welcome

After landing, the first thing we needed was food—and when in London, you have to start with a classic British pub meal. We stopped at a traditional pub restaurant for some crispy fish & chips and bangers & mash (sausages with mashed potatoes and gravy). Everything was warm, filling, and exactly what we needed after a long flight.

∞ Autism-Friendly Tip: British pubs can be loud and busy, so if you prefer a quieter setting, look for a pub with outdoor seating or visit during off-peak hours (early lunch or late afternoon).

A Surprise Royal Encounter at Buckingham Palace

The next morning, we walked over to Buckingham Palace, not knowing we were about to stumble into a royal event! As we arrived, we realized we were just in time for the Trooping of the Guard parade—a massive ceremonial display of guards in red uniforms and bearskin hats, marching with military precision.

And then came the biggest surprise—Prince William on horseback! We saw him ride by, a moment straight out of a storybook, but unfortunately, we were so caught up in the excitement that we didn’t get a video. Shoot!

∞ Autism-Friendly Tip: If you’re sensitive to crowds and loud noises, Buckingham Palace’s Changing of the Guard or other parades can be overwhelming. Watching from a side street or further back from the main gates can give you a quieter but still exciting experience.

Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea – The Most Adorable Bus Ride Ever

Next up was one of the most fun experiences of the trip—the Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus! This double-decker bus serves Peppa Pig-themed treats while driving around London’s iconic landmarks.

We lucked out and got seats at the very front of the upper deck, giving us the best views as we drove past Big Ben, the London Eye, and other sights. The kids on the bus were all so excited, and the atmosphere was super friendly. The tea included cute Peppa-themed sandwiches, pastries, and (of course) tea—perfect for both kids and adults!

∞ Autism-Friendly Tip: The bus moves at a smooth pace and is not overly noisy, making it a great sensory-friendly way to see the city. If your child loves Peppa Pig, this experience is 100% worth it—just be sure to book in advance!

Harrods: A Toy Wonderland (and a Sensory Overload!)

Later that day, we ventured into Harrods, the famous luxury department store, to check out the toy shop and food court. And let’s just say—it was a LOT.

The Harrods Toy Kingdom is basically a dream world for kids, filled with giant stuffed animals, interactive displays, and exclusive toys. It was amazing to see—but also a little overwhelming with all the lights, sounds, and crowds.

After checking out the toy section, we grabbed dinner in the Harrods Food Hall, which is packed with every type of food imaginable, from sushi to pastries to full meals. It was a bit chaotic but worth it to see such a famous spot.

∞ Autism-Friendly Tip: Harrods can be very crowded, so visiting on a weekday or in the morning is best for a quieter experience. If the main food hall feels overwhelming, there are smaller cafes inside Harrods that offer a calmer atmosphere.

Starting the Day Like a Londoner – Full English Breakfast!

Before we left London, we had to experience a traditional English breakfast—a plate full of eggs, sausage, toast, tomatoes, mushrooms, and beans (yes, beans for breakfast!). It was surprisingly delicious and very filling, and it gave us the energy we needed for the next leg of our adventure.

Autism-Friendly Tip: If the texture of baked beans isn’t a favorite, you can ask for them on the side or skip them altogether—most places are happy to adjust the meal!

Final Thoughts on London

London was the perfect mix of history, fun, and adventure, and we loved every moment of it. From unexpected royal encounters to Peppa Pig tea parties, giant toy stores, and classic British meals, there was something for everyone.

Would we go back? Absolutely! Next time, we’d love to see more of the city at night, visit more museums, and maybe even take a Harry Potter studio tour!

If you’re thinking of visiting London, go for it—and don’t forget to grab a plate of fish & chips and a full English breakfast while you’re there!

Until the next adventure!
